Welcome to the Dark Side
I like to make hot breakfast for my monkeys. #1- It is cheaper than cold cereal (because at our house we're sort-of cereal snobs and only eat the costly kind in large doses) #2- I like to tell myself it is healthier than the cold cereal. #3- It's how I grew up.
I do not claim to be a professional breakfast cooker. Sometimes the pancakes or waffles are a little too light or a little (lottle?) too dark. We call the too dark ones Darth Vader pancakes, because they are on the dark side.
So the other morning, Sock commented that his waffles were on the light side, so they were good waffles. Then he took a big bite and announced, "I'm Darth Vader!"
I laughed and reminded him that Darth Vader is the bad guy, so he's not on the light side.
"I know, Mom!" he answered with feigned patience, "That's why I'm eating the light side waffles!"
Grapes loved the idea, so she declared that she was General Grevus. (I don't know how to spell his name!) and she was eating Obi Wan Kenobi.
The Pencil shouted. "Yeah! And I soap-a-pee-yo!"
We all stopped short and looked at him. He smiled and shoved another waffle chunk in his mouth.
So of course, when the Doctor got home, the monkeys requested a pizza-movie night to watch Star Wars. And course, he complied.

All in a Day's work
We like to eat muffins for breakfast. (Cornbread pictured here)
I think it is because I am a glutton for punishment.
Pencil has recently decided that a full morning with no other kids is bo-wing. And bless him, he has also decided that is is his job to rectify that bo-wing situation.
The last few morning have been anything but boring! He took a spare muffin and artfully crumbled and sprinkled it on my newly washed couch.
While I vacuumed (ThZooped) the couch he found a marker and colored on The Doctor's gift for surviving Medical School (AKA a big old TV) Thankfully, I think it was a dry-erase marker. (and yes, I am aware of how very dirty and finger-printy the TV was...er...always is) SO- I cleaned it.
While I cleaned the TV he messed with the computer. He turned the volume and bass clear up- and opened a few programs and moved a few others.
While I fixed the computer (I think...) he opened the fridge and emptied out our 1 zillion radishes (thank you Bountiful Baskets... what do you do with radishes? They are slightly yucky!)
I reloaded the fridge (all the while wondering what I will do with those dang radishes) and that was when I realized it was time to go get Sock from Kindergarten. I spent ALL morning chasing and cleaning up after this little rabble-rouser. I was literally still in my PJ's and completely not ready.
But as I rushed to get my shoes I saw this in the front room:
"You don't thzoop MoMo, Mom. He my best Bestest fwend."
How can I want to quit this job and then want the little moments to last a bit longer all in the same breath? How can this monkey (and his little monkey) make my heart swell to overflowing so soon after he just finished his most recent attempt to drive me stark-raving MAD?
I won't catalogue the events of this morning (not the opening of the garage and playing in the rain on the driveway wearing a PJ top and a diaper at 6:45 in the morning OR the climbing onto the top of the 5 foot tall toy cupboard OR the washing of my kitchen wall with the soapy dish sponge) because then you'll question my parenting skills or his sanity. Or both. And that wouldn't do.

Lost and now I can't see
I sure love these monkeys.
I could take pictures and look at pictures for ages. This is at bedtime a few nights ago. They were happy and cooperative, and I would have been daft to pass on a chance like that to capture a memory.
I lost my contact.
A harmless statement. Go put in a new one, silly girl.
If only it were that easy.
When you are nearly blind- seriously hampered in the vision department- unable to see without help- like I am, you don't get to use those handy, disposable, replace-able contacts.
No, I use the hard, small, old-fashioned, expensive ones.
The ones that last for years and years. (Like, 8 years for this most recent pair) And it's a good thing they last that long because they cost how much?!?!

Getting bigger all the time
The school season is upon us. In fact, school started three weeks ago, but I'm still trying to wrap my head around the weirdness that is two kids in school in JULY.
But now it is August, so my brain is adjusting.
My kids are growing up.
