When school is out... Fall break part 1

In a warn climate like ours, schools sometimes use a modified year-round schedule. It allows for three weeks of break time each Fall.
This first week has been highlighted by a visit from Uncle Lon.

He was kind enough to bring cool electronic devices to share
(and my monkeys took full advantage!)

He sprung for new lego Paa-ger wange-ohs. And little pet shops. Very cool.

And wrestled like a good uncle does. (It reminded me of my Uncle Kenny in years gone by)

We also played with my eye-liner so that we could have facial hair like Uncle Lon.

But no Facial hair for this beauty!

Here's to more fun before he heads home!
(Like a 3D movie and a visit to the favorite El-Charro Mexican restaurante!)

Monkey Business

My bananas went missing the other day. A brand-new, still slightly green bunch of 6 or 7 bananas. Let it be known, bananas rarely last very long at our house. (peanut butter, honey, and nanas... can lunch get any better?? I submit that it cannot.) I buy them green so that they are more likely to last a few days, rather than being inhaled instantly. This time, though, I found the missing bananas stowed behind a certain monkey's bed. (We could blame Mo-Mo, but I think he was an innocent by-stander. This time...)

Let it also be known that this busy monkey has not slowed down. Not in the least.
This is his idea of helping at dinner. By dishing himself a few large scoops of spaghetti sauce.
Who needs noodles, I ask you?
And you may be wondering if I have learned my lesson about putting half of the food on the table before it is fully set or we are truly ready to eat.
You'd think so, wouldn't you?  I guess there's always next time.

This was right after I sliced a new loaf of homemade bread.
I turned around to notice that 3 or 4 slices were missing. I asked him if he had helped himself.
His answer: Yup (said with a mouth FULL of bread)

Let it be also known that Sunday mornings at our house are not complete without a little creative play. Like video game archer-ninja-warrior battles in the bathroom. I was the bad guy with three lifes. I died after an orchestrated attack from these heroes. The Master-Mind Evo bad-guy (Dad) had four lifes, though, so he was much harder to kill.

And yes, if you come to visit, your clothes better look out. No one is safe. Not a one!

Setting the story straight

SOMEDAY is lurking in my mind again. As big decisions about our future loom on the not so distant horizon, I am pondering what I wish for. What do I want next? I find that I am excellent at making a 'someday list' in the hopes of reaching a day when The Doctor works less and makes more. (Perhaps it keeps me going on the hard days) But I find it far more difficult to turn that silly, selfish list into practical decision making skills when the time comes to actually plan for our family's future. The Doctor finishes his residency in a matter of months. Before now, there was always a 'next step' to move on to. (After under-grad you go to med school, then after med school you have to finish residency) But now it is different.  The Doctor could choose a fellowship (more residency, essentially) or he could look for a job. In any Emergency Room in the country. What?!?!

What do I wish for?

Grapes told me she wishes she had straight hair. So a few mornings ago, we gave it a try. She was ecstatic. I may have created a monster.

Pencil wishes that eating chalk tasted better. Every time he does it.

The Doctor wishes the tiny leak under our kitchen sink had not necessitated a complete replacement of the faucet. Good thing my husband is good at styling himself as a plumber.

Sock wishes that I had taken some pictures of him this week. (how do I have a zillion pics and none of my middle child?! Tell me that is normal. No- just tell me to do better. Shoot!)

In other news:
The Doctor has again aged.
My children wrapped and decorated. (What? Not everyone has power rangers and 5 pound weights at their birthday celebrations?)

He need a little help opening his gifts.
Then he needed a wrapping paper-turned confetti -turned cool party hat extravaganza.
Of course the monkeys obliged.
Happy Birthday, sweet guy. We love you!
