For Family Home evening we got to talk about the Doctor's time spent as a missionary in El Salvador.
My kids were fascinated by the things that poured out of his mission box.
Pencil loved the little flags (there were two in the box) and he spent the evening playing with them. At one point he decided the blue and white were more appropriately representative of BYU, so he continued waving and dancing with the flags, but with a fight-song accompaniment.
The Doctor saved all the letters he received. It was so fun to read the letters from people I know. (And funny... when the letters were from the Doctor's then 8-year-old sister who was a marvelous sumo man/random sinking cruise-liner with sharks in the water artist) The blue-outlined letter there^ is from me.
Sock loved trying to sound out words in the Spanish scriptures.
They checked out the map that had hung in Grandma Jen's kitchen while the young Doctor was gone.
The other favorite was checking out all the money stored in this small glass jar. Turns our every time the Doctor has found international money it has been stashed away in here. There were Honduran, British, Mexican, and Canadian coins in addition to the colones from El Salvador.
What a fun idea! Now I want to look at all your dad's slides, but without him they're are a little incomprehensible.
