I have to keep reminding myself that moving in and making a house into a home is a process.
It is not something to be completed in one moment, or even one day or one week.
(or month or year if we are looking realistically at this)
I have visions of bookshelves and media console/entertainment units. I picture bar stools and rugs, paintings and pillows. I imagine color where beige reigns supreme.
Sadly, the world of retail in this tiny rural town has not seen fit to provide the items I imagine.
(or not at a price I'm willing to pay, anyway)
Online shopping, the new bane of my existence, is something I attempt, and abandon in a panic, nearly daily.
I am also hampered by the all-too-familiar not sure where to start, so I don't start at all syndrome.
Instead, daily life is keeping me busy.
*Doing laundry, while Pencil spends time in the 'house' under the laundry room cabinets.
He has blankets, pillows, books and a flashlight in there. He calls it his room.
*Getting kids to the bus stop, two separate times each morning.
Grapes is old enough that I just sit on the front porch and watch her go, but Sock lets me walk him all the way to the corner and wait for the bus with him.
Sock keeps me entertained every day with his silly faces.
*Going to the park.
*Trolling the toy aisles of Walmart with Pencil, admiring every one.
(and putting 'smofe' toys into the mouths of dinosaurs)
Incidentally, at Walmart this last time, while wandering past the zillions of giant TVs,
Pencil asked to stop and watch the movie Epic.
Only he pronounced it "Eff-ic"
I corrected him, and steered the cart closer to the screens.
"No, EFF-IC!" he responded.
I thought it was funny that he so adamantly insisted that this movie's name was nearly a swear,
so I chucked and pronounced the P sound clearly for him. "It is called EP-ic, Bubs."
"NO, EFF-IC! EFF-IC!!!" He growled very loudly.
That's when I decided to just let him call it what he may, because people were starting to stare.
Just another day in the life...
